iOS 14.

  Hi everyone, ios 14 has some great new features in it and in fact there's hundreds of newfeatures but i want to share with you 14 that you may not know that are sortof hidden and so the first ones have to dowith safari and mail or rather not using safari and mailso if you've ever wanted to maybe email someone on a web page so you tap on thatlink and you want it to open up in say gmailyou can now do that you can now set default browsers and mail clients aslong as the app has been updated to support thatso gmail and chrome have been updated as well as some others but let's take alook at how to do that and if you want to change the defaultyou go to settings scroll down to the application you want to make as defaultso in this case it would be chrome under chrome you'll see it says defaultbrowser app tap on that and under default browserapp you've got chrome or safari if you haveothers they'll be listed here tap on the one you want to switch toand now it's changed now the same is true formail clients as well so if we scroll down to saygmail as long as it's been updated to adhere to thestandards that apple is set you go to gmail and you'll seedefault mail app tap on that and you can change it to whichever one showsso as they're updated whether you're using spark or edisonor spike or any other new email client that comes outit will show up here you'll be able to select the default andit will stay that way so maybe you want to open a link and you want it to openin chrome it will do that or you want to email someone it will goto your default app finally so it's great to see that now the next one hasto do with phone calls and apple has finally updated phone calls that they nolonger take up the entire screen they don'toccupy it but maybe you're working and you want to dismiss this and don't wantit on your display swipe it off and it will just go tovoicemail the person won't know that they're going into voicemailit won't disconnect the call it will just ringuntil they eventually get to voicemail so it's a nice little featurejust swipe it off your screen and it gets out of your way now the next onehas to do with photos so if we go into photos and then tap onalbums scroll all the way to the bottom at thevery bottom. 

        You have hidden and hidden albums orhidden photos you could put there for quitesome time but now you can actually hide the hidden folderas well so maybe you don't want prying eyes to see what's in thereso in order to do that we'll go back to settingsand under settings scroll up or down depending where you're at and go tophotos go into photos once you're in photosscroll down and you'll see it says hidden album wecan turn that off and if we go back to our photo app it'snow gone it disappears if we turn it back onit will come back so you'll see we can see it we'll know to turn it on and offbut you would have to know to do that now it's not password protected but youcan hide that folder now now speaking of photos you can nowlimit what apps have access to your photo libraryso for example maybe you want to post on instagram but you don't want instagramhaving access to thousands and thousands thousands ofphotos you only want a set amount of photos available to instagram well youcan do that now again go into settings and undersettings you want to find privacy under privacy go into privacyand then you want to go to photos under photosfind what app you want to change for example instagramtap on the app and you can see it says selected photosall photos or none so if we change it to selected photoswe can now pick the photos that we want it to have access toso we can change it to photos or albums maybe just these threehit done and now it only has access to those photosso for example if i go into instagram and i tap on the plus button at thebottom and go to library you'll see it says there's only threephotos there it did give me the option to select more but there's only thosethree available that i chose so it's a way to secure your photossecure it to a specific album or a set number of photos that you allowso you can change that however you'd likeand it keeps things a little bit more secure based on app so it's app to appand you can select any app that you'd liketo only allow some or none or a few of themnow the last thing to do with photos is if we go into our cameraand maybe we want to take a burst photo normally what we would do is press andhold the shutter button and continuously hold itwell this has been changed to now record video so if we press and holdit's recording video. 

        We can slide up and you'll see it's locked but if you hadthat unlocked it would record burst photos now we can change the burstphoto mode to use the volume button so again if we go into settings and then we're going to scroll down tocamera under camera you'll see that we have the option for afew different things but we can use volume for burst and as long as we havethat on now we can just use the volume for burstmode you'll see it's taking a bunch of photosnow as i hold the volume button or we can press and hold for video somaybe we were taking a photo but we wanted to record that videowe press and hold and it records a video it's a couple new features that i thinkare really nice and quick ways to access those settings now within ios 14you're probably already aware of widgets and you either love them or maybe youdon't like them at all but there's one thing that a lot ofpeople aren't aware of that you can do with them and that's that you can stackthem so i actually have two widgets here thati can scroll between my notes and the current weather now if i want toadd a third one i can do that now apple already makes what's called asmart stack where it can rotate throughout the day based on what youwant to see but if you want to create your own slideover to your widgets press and hold and of course you could add a new onebut maybe we want to take this existing battery widget we'll bring it overand let's drag it on top of the other one let goslide up and now we can rotate between three thingswe can stack up to five different things here andjust rotate through whatever we want. 

        So now i can see my battery status of myphone and my apple watch and then if you haveair pods they'll show up here if i don't want to see that i justswitch it over to weather so a nice little update that you can do withwidgets that a lot of people didn't know now for years and years we've had pagesand pages of applications but you're probably already familiarwith the new app library and this is designed to actually sorteverything and organize it by itself so maybe you want to clean up your pagesbut you don't want to deal with deleting them or moving them aroundwell you can now hide your pages now press on an empty space or go intojiggle mode that's what apple officially calls ittap the dots at the bottom you may have more or less depending on how many pagesyou have tap on that and now you can select pagesyou want to either show or hide so let's go ahead andhide every page but our main page you can even have a blank home page if youhave just one with no app widgets on it so let's go ahead and hit done and nowyou'll see if we slide up we'll lock everything inwe've only got the home screen and the app library now there is no way to hidethe la the app library but you can make apps gonot onto a different home page but you can have it go directly into the applibrary or have it go on to a new page when you download andinstall apps so not only can we hide the pages we can hide the apps we install sothey're easily accessible either via the app libraryor via search .

        So if we want to hide those specific apps we go into settingsunder settings go to home screen under home screenyou can see it says newly downloaded apps add to home screenor add to app library only you can change this based on your preferenceand again you can show notifications in the app library as wellif you don't want to you don't have to so you can have all your newlydownloaded apps go directly into the app library or to the home screen so theywill auto hide themselves keeping everything nice and clean howyou've already organized or maybe customized the home screen now there's anew feature in music that i really like and i've wanted for years and now we'vegot it so if we go into the music app and maybe we're playing a songbut we want this to continue after the album is over maybe we're working hardand we just want similar songs to continuewell if you hit this down this little menu down in the bottom rightin the upper right you now have a little infinity symbol and if we scroll downyou'll see that it's auto played selections that are similar to whatwe're already listening to so you can see that they're already thereif i turn off the little infinity it will stop at the end of the albumturn it back on and it will pick similar songs and continue to playit won't stop until you stop playing so it's a nice little optionmaybe you're just listening to some soothing music some music to do work byor maybe you're working out and listening to some other music you cancontinue to play things that are similar so it's really nice that they've addedit and it's simple to use now if you'resomeone that uses voice memos maybe in a classroomor during an interview and you're recording a conversation .

        So you canlisten back to it later on but it's a noisy environmentapple has updated voice memos with a really interesting new featureso for example we're in voice memos i'll hit record and now we're talking aboutvoice memos and the application itself now if we were in a noisy environmentwe can actually clean this audio up so if we stop the voice recordingand you'll see the voice recording here if we tap on the three buttons to theleft we have a couple different options oneis edit the recording tap on edit the recording and edit therecording has a little magic wand in the upper left now if we tap on thatmagic wand it will clean up the audio recording andremove background noise so maybe we're in a very loud or noisy environmentwhether that be a city or maybe in a large cafeteria something like thatand you really want to be able to hear that conversationinstead of hearing all that noise too this will actually fix thatso you can see you can replace it hit done you can listen back to itit will fix the audio and it's a great option especially if you're having ahard time hearing what they're saying now another new great feature that youmay not know about ios 14 has to do with passwordsso if you store a lot of passwords on your phone using apple's keychainyou can now get notifications when that password may be compromised and to seethat you can go to settings now it may just tell you about it ifyou're on safari and you're putting in a passwordbut go to settings scroll down to passwordsonce you get into passwords you now have security recommendations and securityrecommendations you'll see a little exclamation pointwith a red circle around it and if you have that it means one ormore of your passwords has been compromised on a database or a databreach and you probably should change it so youcan go into that and then change your password.

         It willeven help you do it so it's a great new security feature that i thinkmore people should implement across everythingso if you're using an ipad you'll see this as well as an iphoneand upcoming with mac os big sur you'll see it there as wellnow again going along with security and privacy there's a new feature thatreally limits location tracking within ios 14. so forexample maybe you have an application that wants your location but you don'twant to give it your precise location you can now do that and you do that bygoing to settings then you scroll down to privacy thenlocation services and let's just pick an app maybe let'sgo to google maps for example google maps has precise location turnedon now if i turn this off iphone will give it a general location it will notgive me an exact location again you can also select whether youwant it to ask you to use your location every single timewith ask next time while using an app always or nevernow that it's only got a little bit of the location let's go ahead and take alook at it so we'll go into google maps so within maps it's saying it's givingme a general location it is not giving a precise locationand as you can see here with the little arrow it's got a little question markon it saying i don't have your precise location but it has a general ideaand so this can be modified on a per app basisso maybe you don't want every single app knowing where you're at at all times youcan give it a general location i think that's a great feature ascertain applications don't need to know exactly where iam all the time now another feature that's really great is when you're deepin menus and you want to see exactly.

         Where you are in those menus in the topleft you can tap and hold where it says backand it will actually give you in the actual location area you're at soyou can see we're in settings privacy location services and you can goback to either one of those so it shows us exactly where we're atand that works anywhere within ios so for example maybe we'll go backfrom privacy and instead we'll go to let's saygeneral then maybe we'll go to iphone storagetap and hold and you'll see it says we're in generaland settings and it works all throughout the os so maybe you forgot exactly whereyou went to get an application setting you can now figure that out justby pressing and holding it's a nice little update that they've donenow finally the last feature in ios 14 which i think is really helpful has todo with sound recognition so if you're someone that's a little hard of hearingor maybe you're just waiting for the doorbell to ring and you don't want tomiss it but you want to get a notification if itrings you can now have your phone listen for that and to do that you wantto go to settings go down to accessibility then you wantto scroll down to where it says sound recognition andunder sound recognition tap on it we'll turn it on turn on soundrecognition and now we have a bunch of differentoptions if we tap on sounds so if we tap on sounds we can have ourphone listen for different alarms animals cats and dogs householdappliances car horns doorbell door knock waterrunning or a baby crying and if any of thosethings happen it will notify you on your device so letme show you what that looks like so using my mac i'll just play the soundof a doorbell so let's go ahead and play the doorbell soundand you'll see immediately it comes in on my phone and says a sound has beenrecognized that may be a doorbell and so it will let you know on yourdevice on your phone that it's heard a doorbellso it works for any one of those sounds that i showed .

        you cats dogsfire alarms sirens smoke alarms and i think it's really helpfuland it only takes up a little bit of space 5.1 megabytes in my caseso you can have that turned on and i think it's a great help especially ifyou can't hear very well that will let you know when a verycritical thing happens as a final tip or bit of information i want to share withyou one thing because i've been getting a lot ofquestions about this if you've ever noticed with ios 14a little dot appearing in the upper right whether that be greenor orange that is a security feature to let you know that an application isusing either your video cameras your rear-facing camera forward cameraor the microphone of the phone itself and so it will change color depending onwhat it's doing so for example if i go into the camera appyou'll see that it turns green and if i swipe homeand bring down the control center you'll see it says camera comma recentlyand it's green it's showing you that it's using the camerathe same is true if maybe we're in a voice memo recording our voiceyou'll see that the dot is now orange so if i stop thatswipe up to go home and then pull down the control centerit says voice memos comma recently and so those are just security features nowthat are built into ios 14 to let you know that an application isusing either your microphone or your camerasand you are now in control of that you can change that in the settings ofcourse what uses your cameras like you always could and so that's there just tolet you know if an application is doing the right thingwhether or not you allowed it to record your voice orvideo and then it just gives you a heads up there's no way to disable it it'sjust there for your safety to kind of let you know what's going on with theoperating system and if an app is using something itshouldn't be and so those are 14 different ios 14 tips you may not knowlet me know if you knew any of them or hopefully i taught you some new thingsabout ios 14 let me know in the comments below ofcourse if you'd like to get your hands on this wallpaper i'll link it in thedescription like i normally.
